HISTORY OF THE RENAULT MEGANE (1996 – 2002)
The Renault Megane is a vehicle belonging to the C-segment manufactured by the brand French car Renault.
Went out to the market as a replacement for the Renault 19 and created four generations of Megane.
The first generation of the Renault Megane was released at the end of the year 1995, with the models five-door hatchback, coupe two-door called ‘Megane Coupe’, version sedan ‘Megane Classic’ and estate ‘Scénic’. Finally would come the convertible called ‘Megane Cabriolet’ in march of 1997.
The first generation would be two phases. The so-called ‘Phase 2’ would see the light in February of 1999, with a small reestilización where the front grille was raised up and adding advancements in security.
DESIGN OF THE RENAULT MEGANE (1996 – 2002)
The Renault Megane I (1996 – 2002) was manufactured in France, Spain and Argentina. After the launch of the second generation, it stopped producing the first in Europe.
This vehicle featured improved security systems like airbags driver and passenger, ABS and brake assist in case of emergency.

The Renault Megane (1996 – 2002) is a front-engine cross-section and front wheel drive.
Phase I (1995 – 1999) had five petrol engines and three diesel engines available:
- Fuel:
• 1.4 Eco 70 HP manual transmission 5-speed.
• 1.4 e of 75 HP with manual shift mode 5-speed.
• 1.6 e 90 HP with manual shift mode 5-speed or automatic 4-speed transmission.
• 2.0 115 HP with manual shift mode 5-speed or automatic 4-speed transmission.
• 2.0 16v 150 CV with change 5-speed manual.
- Diesel:
• 1,9 65 HP with manual shift mode 5-speed.
• 1,9 dT 90 HP with manual shift mode 5-speed.
• 1.9 dTi 98 BHP with manual shift mode 5-speed or automatic 4-speed transmission.
Phase II (1999 – 2002) was available with the following engines:
- Fuel:
• 1.4 e of 75 HP with manual shift mode 5-speed.
• 1.4 16v 95 CV with change 5-speed manual.
• 1.6 16v 110 CV with manual shift mode 5-speed or automatic 4-speed transmission.
• 1.8 16v 116 HP with manual shift mode 5-speed or automatic 4-speed transmission.
• 2.0 IDE 140 HP with manual shift mode 5-speed.
- Diesel:
• 1,9 65 HP with manual shift mode 5-speed.
• 1.9 dTi 98 BHP with manual shift mode 5-speed or automatic 4-speed transmission.
• 1.9 dTi 80 HP with manual shift mode 5-speed.
• 1,9 dCi 105 HP with manual shift mode 5-speed.
