Then we will make a brief summary of how it works, as a general rule, air suspension for Mercedes E-Class , W213 / S213 / AMG (2016-2021).
The air suspension is composed of:
- Shock absorbers: these are similar to those of a suspension of the ordinary. Your goal is to absorb the bumps, potholes, etc Each vehicle will be 4, one for each wheel.
- Bellow: inflate and deflate air to change the height or stiffness of the shock absorber. It is normal that each vehicle carrying 4, one for each wheel.
- Compressor: there is more than one compressor is a little bit special that serves to inflate and deflate the bellow of air. It is normal that each car takes one only.
- Valve housing: responsible for distributing air from the compressor between the different bellow of the car so that they are compensated.
- Switchboard: send the instructions to the valve housing and a compressor to fill or empty the bellow of air.
- Circuit: these are the tubes that connect the bellow with the valve housing and a compressor. For them to circulate the air that will fill or empty the olive.
As we can see the structure and shape of function of an air suspension Mercedes E-Class , W213 / S213 / AMG (2016-2021) is not difficult, upside-down, it is pure logic. If you are reading this it is because your vehicle has problems and you have given budgets of $ 10,000 or more to change the air suspension on your Mercedes E-Class , W213 / S213 / AMG (2016-2021). Don't be scared, just you have tried to deceive as is very common today with the times.
The first step to see what happens to your car is to observe yourself. Upload it to the highest position, measures a few inches from the ground to the fin and leave it for a few days without touching it. Past those days again to measure it. We have two options:
1-it has Not lowered height: it is a good signal, the bellow are apparently good and the circuit also. Repeat this test by moving it a few feet to the car and changing the height to a position less. This is because if there is a small pore in a olive, that may, in the position in which it is now the car is this covering, and therefore has not had any losses.
2-If you have lowered height: we will look for axes differentiating the front and the rear. If the right front wheel has dropped we'll have to review the bellow front left and right. Although only the failure of one sometimes the failure comes just from the other wheel that pulls to the good. In any case, now if we have to go to the workshop to check the bellow in more detail and to verify that the review of the specialized technical coincides with what was observed.
Do I have to change all the components of my air suspension?
The answer is NO but with exceptions.
Example 1: a car with 80,000 miles, olive right front damaged. The best thing is to JUST change the two-bellow front.
Example 2: same car with 160,000 km, olive right front damaged. Theirs would be to change only the two-bellow front but with these miles we will have to verify if the shock absorbers of the car are well (both front and rear). This assessment you will have to do in the workshop.
Example 3: same car off 260,000 km, olive right front damaged. Here if it is recommended to change bellow and shock absorbers both front and rear. Surely you need all a complete change for the time and the miles.
IMPORTANT NOTES. It's always best to change everything: shock absorbers, compressor, bellow, stainless valves, etc., But as they are expensive components you need to decide what is best for each case because many times it is NOT necessary to make a complete change. What is common to have to change olive, shock absorber, or both, and the strange part is the compressor, the valve housing or exchange. But it may happen that the compressor is broken. This will tell you in our workshop with total confidence and without guile.
This information is general, then every brand and model may vary.
